Pittacum 2011 is an exclusive red wine made 100% with the main variety of the Bierzo area, the Mencía grape. Very well balanced, complex, elegant and fruity, an easy drink red wine made for an special occasion.
Sommelier recommendation: Red meat, especially lamb chops or roasted rabbit, cheese and charcuterie.
Producer´s Tasting note: Highly colored with an elegant nose. Lively and fresh red fruit, species, chinese ink and minerals. Fluid and juicy palate with a very long mouth
Luis Gutierrez Tasting Note (The wine advocate) for 2009: "The 2009 Pittacum is the bread and butter wine of the winery with 180,000 bottles per year. The Mencía grapes are fermented in stainless steel and aged for eight months in French and American oak barrels, and a further two years in bottle. By the time it hits the shelves, it should be ready to drink. The aromas of wild berries are intermixed with some white coffee and toffee. The palate brings some spicy notes, with vegetable coal, dark berries and a mineral hint. Drink 2014-2017."
